Who we are
Abel, Inc. (“Abel”, “we”) builds software that medical practices use to run their back office — incoming documents, charts, scheduling, and follow-up.
We act in two distinct roles. For the practice staff who log in and use the product, we are the service provider and this policy describes what we do with their information. For patient information that a practice processes through our software, the practice directs what happens and we handle that information on the practice's behalf, under our written agreement with them.
Messages we send
Where a member of practice staff provides a mobile number, we use it to send operational messages about work that needs their attention and to answer questions they send us. These are transactional messages about the practice's own operations. They are not marketing.
- Frequency varies with how busy the practice is. There is no fixed number of messages per week.
- Reply STOP to any message to stop receiving them. Reply HELP for help.
- Message and data rates may apply, depending on the mobile plan.
- We keep the content of these messages and their delivery receipts as part of the practice's operational record.
We do not sell or rent mobile numbers. We do not use them for marketing, and we do not share them with third parties for those parties' own marketing. Numbers are shared only with the messaging providers we use, solely to deliver the messages described here.
What we collect
- Staff account information — name, work email address, role, and which practice the account belongs to.
- Staff mobile numbers, where provided, for the messages described above.
- Product usage — sign-in events and records of actions taken in the product, used to operate and secure it.
- Practice and patient information processed on a practice's behalf — which may include documents the practice receives, chart entries, appointments, and the screens Abel worked on while carrying out a task the practice asked for.
How we use information
We use information to provide, secure, support, and improve the product for the practice that the information belongs to. We do not sell personal information, and we do not use patient information for advertising.
Service providers
We use a small number of vendors to run the service. Each processes information only to provide its service to us: cloud hosting and storage, database hosting and authentication, messaging delivery, automated browser sessions, and AI processing of documents and text within the product.
Security
Network traffic is encrypted in transit. Data is stored in managed infrastructure with access scoped per practice at the database layer, so one practice's records are not reachable from another's account. Credentials Abel signs in with are stored encrypted and are never displayed. Access by our staff is limited to what is needed to operate and support the service.
How long we keep information
We keep information for as long as the practice's agreement with us is in effect, and we return or delete it afterwards as that agreement requires. Some records are kept longer where the law requires it.
Requests about your information
If you are a patient of a practice that uses Abel, that practice controls your information — please contact them, and we will support them in responding.
If you are a member of practice staff, contact us at the address below to access, correct, or delete your account information.
Changes
We will update this page if this policy changes and will revise the effective date above.
